The call “wash out” refers to when both of the player’s arm swung shoulder height, not waist height. “Referees have to referee age groups that you are at least two years younger than them,” Zhang said. “I was born in 2005 so I can referee age groups that are 2007 and younger.”

All three referees work together to officiate the game. “Before the game, we typically check the score sheet to make sure everything’s set up correctly and that coaches have signed,” Zhang said. “Then after the game, we typically have to go review the score sheet again, to make sure everything’s right.”
