Ladue hosts third annual Ladue Night Lights event

Knox Kennedy runs up the field with a football. This was Kennedy’s third year participating. “It’s an amazing night,” business teacher Jessica Kennedy, Knox’s mother, said. ”It is so heartwarming to see students of all needs come together for a unified community event.”

The New Inductees
The participants play Volleyball with the help of their volunteers who cheer for them. The sport each semester for Special Olympics changes and next semester it will be track and field. "There is a bowling, volleyball, and track and field event throughout the year," Yancy said.
Special Olympics
In the Spanish hallway, students made decorations that represent the celebration for the Day of the Dead. Each box was personally made by a student for a celebrity or a loved one that passed away. "[And for] each of their boxes, they needed to have pictures and items that loved one enjoyed," DeLia said.
Celebrating Loved Ones
McKenzie Durbin takes photos during photography class. The class has been working with lighting and shadows. "I enjoy photography because we get to go around the school and take fun pictures," Durbin said.

The “Fresh Paint” art gallery boasts a number of elaborate student paintings. The paintings come from all different experience levels ranging from Painting I to AP Studio Art. “In April, there'll be a senior art show, and we'll put announcements out for seniors to bring in work,” Daniel Raedeke said. “We don't jury the show, so everybody's accepted in, and we fill the gallery space and also the foyer for that show.

Justin Espinosa stands with his spring rotation of shoes in the studio March 13. Espinosa’s vast collection allows him to create seasonal shoe cycles that work with the rest of his clothing. “At any point I can put on the Clarks [Wallabees] that are a little bit more dressy or I could put on the Jordan 1 sneakers or the Jordan 3 sneakers or the Sambas and they’ll all go together with the outfit,” Espinosa said.
Kick It Up
History teacher Mike Hill performs a safe bee removal outside of Ladue High School April 1. Hill has experience dealing with bees. as he has a bee hive of his own at home. "[There were many things going through my head]," Hill said. "First of all, be gentle. When bees swarm, they are docile. Second, make sure to get the queen in the box, because all of the bees will follow her. Third, oh my god, half the school is watching, so do not do something stupid."
Buzzing Away
Professor Leila Sadat speaks during a UN Youth Envoy meeting Jan. 9. Her knowledge and experience relates to Youth Envoy’s goal of peace, justice and strong institutions. “I spent a lot of time at the UN,” Sadat said. “There are a lot of meetings. There are a lot of gatherings. There are a lot of things that are fun in addition to hard work.”
Compassion in Action
The AP Studio Art class works on independent projects Nov. 30. Each student chooses an overall theme for their work and develops a portfolio for submission to the College Board in May. “We can use whatever mediums we want, whether it’s painting, or drawing, or fibers, mixed media collage, clay [or] sculpture,” Esmé Roberts (12) said. “I think it’s interesting to see what people come up with to express themselves.”

Vincent Hsiao is in his second year as Photography Editor in Chief for Ladue Publications. Hsiao is a captain on the swim team, and serves as the Public Relations Co-Chair for National Honor Society. Outside of Publications, Hsiao runs his own photography business and freelances for MaxPreps as a sports photographer.
