UNICEF is holding a Trick-or-Treat fundraiser from the beginning of October to the end of November, during which students help raise money for a good cause. This event occurs annually and is a good way for club members to increase their impact on a global scale. Each dollar raised positively changes a child’s life.
“UNICEF is an organization that helps kids around the world in underdeveloped countries that don’t have the same things and privileges that we do here, where we live, so it’s a way to share what we have with other people,” club officer Sahasra Mandalapu said.
To raise money, UNICEF holds various events to increase students’ engagement with the cause and its impact. The event that is occurring now is the Trick-or-Treat fundraiser.
“Currently, we are doing trick or treat for UNICEF, which is like, normally, traditionally, we have like boxes that you can collect money in. People can go around their neighborhood and collect money, but now it’s just online because of rules, basically, it’s just a fun spin on Halloween, where you can just collect money and raise money for children,” club officer Hamza Bhutto said.
Another way the officers set up this event to increase and encourage participation and the potential to raise money is the prizes that the donors can win.
“We’re gonna give out prizes to donors, and the top donor will receive a big prize and get to sign their name on the UNICEF flag, and also the cause of where it’s going to just makes people want to donate,” Bhutto said.
UNICEF emphasizes that no matter how much money you can contribute to the donation, it all makes the same amount of a positive impact on the world.
“$1 has a lot more of an impact than you think. Even a few bucks can help donate school supplies and help improve the education of kids around the world, give kids clean water access and food packages. You don’t need to be donating tons and tons of money, but a few dollars from everybody will be just more than enough, because if everybody donates something, even a little bit, that small amount of money can make a really big difference,” Mandalapu said.
