No one knows when it started, but there is certainly conflict between the new administration and the student body, most notably the senior class. It’s impossible to deny it; the countless comments on the senior class Facebook page clearly demonstrate a strong resentment among certain students for the administration’s policies. The real question is why students feel that way in the first place.
In past years, the administration did not do a good job enforcing existing rules. Because of this, the school district paid the price when the “Senior List” made national headlines. As a result, the new administration has attempted to do a better job keeping students accountable by actually enforcing the school’s rules. What a revolutionary idea. No, not really.
The truth is that the senior class has had a lot of freedom for three years in a row. It is not unfair of a new administration to enforce such simple things like arriving to school on time or actually being productive during Academic Lab. And it is not unfair of the administration to threaten to take away parking spots if certain rules are not met. I mention parking only because that appears to be the major reason for the senior class complaints.
I do understand that many students consider the purchase of a parking spot a financial transaction (which is true). However, these same students fail to realize that the purchase of Cardinal tickets is also a financial transaction and that ushers can eject fans from Cardinal games without refunding them. A school’s job is to educate its students and it seems only logical that a school threaten students with a very important carrot in order to accomplish their goal.
I’m just saying.
