Volleyball players celebrate senior night

October 20, 2021

Senior girls volleyball players celebrated their senior night Oct. 19. The four seniors on the team are captain Joelle Alexander, Sarah Chen, Alex Early and Anika Speicher.

The Rams played the Clayton Greyhounds and lost all three of the sets they played. However, despite the loss, the seniors appreciated the recognition they received for their impacts on the program. The younger members of the team gave speeches about the seniors and presented them with gifts.

“I’m going to miss playing the game with the people who I’ve known my whole high school career,” Early said. “The bonds I’ve made along the way will be something I never forget. When Emily and Kate gave my speech, I was on the verge of tears. Their words meant a lot to me and encourage me to keep working hard.“

Junior Molly Milton spoke about Speicher and gifted her a water bottle and candy. She is sad to see all four seniors go.

“I’m going to miss playing with Anika and always seeing her hard work and determination,” Milton said. “I’m also going to miss [Joelle, Alex and Sarah] because I’ve become really close friends with them and it’s not going to be the same without them next year.”

The younger members of the team are sad to see the seniors leave. Members of the team gave speeches about the seniors and presented them with gifts. Junior Molly Milton spoke about Speicher.

The team now looks ahead to the postseason, with their first game being against Ritenour Oct. 21. Ladue plays in Class 5 District 5.

“I’m excited for the postseason because I think we have a chance of winning the first game,” Speicher said. “The more volleyball, the better.”
