The pep rally Friday Feb. 21 was a huge success in the eyes of STUCO representatives. With the cheerleaders, Mr. Ladue nominees, and other participants, the pep rally sparked school spirit throughout the student body.
This week was K.I.S.S. week, also known as “Keeping In School Spirit” week. Each day had a different way to inspire spirit. Tuesday was America Day, Wednesday was Pink for Breast Cancer Day, Thursday was Pajama Day, and Friday was Blue and White Day. The goal of the spirit days was to get everyone excited for the Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game on Friday night against Clayton.
“It’s cool that in the middle of the school year, when school spirit is kind of low and everyone is tired, we get to have a spirit week,” Sophomore Class Secretary Lucy Jonas said. “It was fun to see everyone dressed up and just doing their thing.”
The peak of spirit week was the pep rally, when the entire school gathered in the gym during Academic Lab to encourage enthusiasm for tonight’s basketball game. Blue Crew President Eric Stuber led the pep rally.
Habitat for Humanity also used this time to introduce the Mr. Ladue pageant participants. Categories ranged from Mr. Nice Guy to Mr. DECA to Mr. Tennis. The pageant will be held March 11 in the Performing Arts Center.
“The pep rally is a good way to get people excited for the Coaches vs. Cancer game so we get a big turnout,” Senior Class Vice President Emily Dove said. “It’s also a good chance for us to announce the Mr. Ladue participants because everyone is gathered together.”
STUCO hopes that the pep rally will get everyone in the spirit to go support the basketball team at Clayton as well as raise as much money for cancer as they can during halftime.
