The 2024 ‘Due Run is scheduled for Sept. 21, 8 a.m., at the McKenna Plaza, which is located at the Ladue High School stadium. However, if you cannot make it in person you can also participate virtually, which they began offering in 2020 due to the pandemic. You take a picture of yourself running and you can send them in from all over the country.
The ‘Due Run is a fundraiser in which all the proceeds go into funding grants and initiatives through the Ladue Education Foundation (LEF). There are more than 30 sponsors, ranging from the Ladue Parent Teacher Association to Pretzel Boy’s. Every year they raise around $25,000, and after expenses about $18,000 goes back into the LEF.
The LEF is a non-profit organization in Ladue that provides grants and programs in all levels and fields of study. They fundraise through the community and then put that money back into creating experiences for students. Julie Ferrie is the executive director of the LEF.
“We hold the ‘Due Run every year as a way to bring families together in a wonderful event that’s healthy and fun. It’s a great way to introduce families to the LEF foundation,” Ferrie said. “Through coming to the run, they can learn a little bit about who we are and what we do […] it’s a community builder, and it’s a great way to introduce Ladue families to the foundation and our work.”
Every year the LEF adds something new to the ‘Due Run. Over the years, they have added cheerleaders, Laduettes, food vendors, DJs, and giveaways. This year they will also have food trucks and a mascot race with the mascots of all participating schools.
“[The best part is] seeing the families together,” Ferrie said. “We have mom, dad and all the kids running together […] It’s just so fun for families.”
There are numerous ways that Ladue students and families can get involved like volunteering and donating. However, the best way to get involved is to sign up and participate in the ‘Due Run.
