Only days after “Snowcoming” was revealed to students on the morning announcements, it was cancelled Feb. 12 because of its lack of popularity among the student body.
“I posed the question about canceling the dance to STUCO,” sponsor James Goldwasser said. “More students thought we should cancel the dance rather than keep the dance as scheduled. I cancelled the dance after consulting the STUCO leadership.”
Although there were no ticket pre-sales, many students weren’t confident that the dance would succeed. Senior President of the Senior Class Catie Ryan didn’t think word of the dance spread very quickly despite the commercial shown on the morning announcements. Furthermore, she thought many people would be traveling during the long weekend and would be unable to attend the dance. Next year, there will be a strong effort made to make students more interested in attending.
“Next year we are planning on combining a winter informal dance with Dance Marathon,” Ryan said. “Winter informals have been historically less successful than anticipated at Ladue, so we hoped this could be different. I think it’s also a hectic time of year for many people, so students may not have been talking about the dance as much as we would have hoped.”
