La La Land: a must see

Every once in awhile, a movie comes along that has a unique way of reaching its viewers. Lionsgate Film’s La La Land is one of these movies. After walking out of the movie for the first time, I felt a mix of emotions ranging from ecstatic to nostalgic, and pretty much everything in between. However, now that I have seen the film a second time, I am able to come to terms with the movie’s roller coaster effect on its watchers.

The plot is exciting, hopeful and surprising. Emma Stone plays Mia, a young aspiring actress who works at a coffee shop to make ends meet, amidst disappointing auditions. Her counterpart, Sebastian, portrayed by Ryan Gosling, dreams of opening a club and reviving the dying style of jazz. The two meet and fall in love, but must decide how to make their professional dreams come true.

La La Land was an instant success since its Dec. 9 release. The film received an unprecedented amount of Golden Globe awards: seven. Additionally, it was honored with fourteen Oscar nominations, which ties the record set by Titanic and All About Eve. The picture has gained $174 million in revenue, and that number is still on the rise. With a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is sure to go down in blockbuster history. If you’re a fan of movies with wonderful characters, then I greatly encourage you to buy tickets and experience the movie’s magic for yourself.
