Amidst American disapproval of nuclear development, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad completed a visit to Latin American countries Jan. 13. One of Iran’s greatest supporters, Venezuela’s president Hugo Chavez, has supported Iran’s nuclear policy and disapproves of American sanctions against Iran. Because of the disagreement with Iran’s nuclear power, President Barack Obama signed strict financial sanctions against Iranian oil Jan. 1.
After much discussion, the European Union passed an import ban on Iranian oil, according to the Wall Street Journal Jan. 23.
“If the United States wants to bother the people of Iran, the people of Iran will stand strong and will respond firmly,” Ahmadinejad said in the same article. #
