Every winter, the Missouri Botanical Garden holds the Garden Glow, a holiday light show featuring almost 2 million bulbs. The exhibit draws crowds of tourists and locals alike. This year, it was open from Nov. 17 to Jan. 6.
Former Ladue supervisory assistant Jarrad McCloud attended the Garden Glow Saturday, Dec. 9 with his parents and brother. He is returning to the University of Missouri-Kansas City this semester to get his master’s degree. This was his first time at the Missouri Botanical Garden.
“I wanted to get some more St. Louis things in before I left,” McCloud said.
Many other families had the same idea, because the Garden Glow often draws a crowd too massive to fit in its parking lot.
“It was absolutely packed,” McCloud said. “I could barely find a [parking] spot.”
This struggle was also experienced by junior Michael Wise, who visited the Garden Glow Thursday, Dec. 21.
“Be prepared for some traffic and lack of parking spots if you end up going at a popular time,” Wise said.
Luckily, this winter break was not as frigid as some in years past. However, walking the entire path can take upwards of an hour, so dressing in layers is important.
“Dress appropriately,” McCloud said. “Definitely wear some gloves, a hat, a nice coat.”
Overall, the Garden Glow is a versatile experience that anyone can enjoy. It is popular among families, children, couples, and groups.
“I would definitely recommend it,” Wise said. “It’s a good time and an amazing thing to do to fill an empty winter break night.”
