Hundreds of people gathered at Ladue Middle School despite the chilly weather to support the Jackson Hill Foundation Feb . They participated in an event called Run and Run S’more.

Sophomore Maggie Lochmoeller is an ambassador to the race and is thrilled about the event’s success.

“Run and Run S’more partners with the Jackson Hill Foundation, which raises money to build wellness centers in hospitals,” Lochmoeller said. “Former Ladue cross country coach, Melissa Hill, began this organization when her son Jackson died of osteosarcoma in 2005.”

Since August, the ambassadors have met with race directors Melissa Hill and Mark Spewak twice every month to plan for the big event. The team reached out to people through mediums such as school announcements and social media.

“Run and Run S’more is a 5K run and one mile fun run,” Lochmoeller said. “After running, participants enjoy s’mores while benefiting a worthwhile cause. Registration fees and donations all go towards the Jackson Hill Foundation.”

This was the second year that Run and Run S’more had taken place. The ambassadors are already planning next year’s event, and are hoping to expand the program throughout the Midwest.

“This year, almost 800 people showed up to run and raise money in memory of Jackson Hill,” Lochmoeller said. “On behalf of the other ambassadors, I feel extremely proud to be apart of the Ladue community.”
