Tomorrow is an early release day, something that undoubtedly brings students (and teachers) a great deal of excitement. Classes are shortened to just under an hour. On blue days, there are really only three classes because of Academic Lab.
They really are ridiculous; hear me out.
1. They accomplish nothing. Seriously, when is the last time you have been to a class where a teacher has actually managed to accomplish something meaningful on a short day. It’s not just the shorter amount of time, it’s also the attitude of the students. Very few people feel like working on normal Fridays. Short Fridays lead to a restless atmosphere (for good reason), making it nearly impossible to teach.
2. The timing is terrible. An early release day ends at 12:00 and many students with C and D lunch are able to leave early to eat. That is perfect for all the students who have cars. However, a sizable group of students can’t take advantage of this perk and are forced to stay at school for an extra thirty minutes. Why force students to go to lunch? It’d make more sense to have all four classes uninterrupted. Without lunch.
3. They are not as good as simply having the day off. As fun as early release days are, it’d be even better to have the day off. Early release days do count as school days (allowing Ladue to release its students early for the summer). However, they still make everyone wake up early and do their homework for the day. Let’s cut our summer break down by two or three days and replace these short days with off days.
