International week is a schoolwide celebration of cultural education and diversity within the student body that will occur on the week of Feb. 24-28.
The week will feature a variety of different events representing different cultures, including a parade, talent show, and culinary sampling.
“International week is a huge event that we’ve been putting on ever since I’ve been here,” French teacher Elise Dale said. “It’s a week that’s packed full of activities that celebrate cultures from all over the world. I started here nine years ago, and it was already in full swing [then].”
One of the largest events of the week is the parade of nations. It will occur on Feb. 24, and serve as the opening event for the week.
“Every year just gets bigger and bigger–in fact, this year it’s going to take up almost all of L2, ” Dale said. “People [will] walk through the halls carrying flags and musical instruments and dressed in attire that represents our culture. It’s a really good way to kind of kick off the week, because [it] gets people excited–people all over the building see us.”
Also throughout the week, students learning different languages get the opportunity to show off what they’ve learned throughout the school year.
“On Tuesday, we have a culinary sampler, ” Dale said. “Usually [the French Honor Society] does crepes every year, which I really enjoy. Thursday is the showcase, [where] people are going to show off their different talents. French students always sing us off, which is a lot of fun.”
