Ladue’s UNICEF club members gather in the Foods kitchen room and create baked goods for their bake sale April 11 and 12.
Upon arrival into the Foods room, Chef Dalton briefed the members about their task ahead.
“Chef Dalton went really into detail about the kitchen safety rules and we took extra precautions,” Maya Varadachari (10) said. Safety is a big priority because not only are the cookies and brownies going to a good cause, but since we are giving them to the public it’s important to make sure they are safe for everyone to eat.”
In order to create a large sum of cookies, students were divided up then got to work.
“We split into tables of four and started baking different treats like brownies and cookies,” Jo Gyawali (10) said. “Some of us would mix batter or dough and others were spreading the batter out on the pans, but overall we [were all] working together.”
Despite the cramped space and rising temperatures as the ovens began to heat, students found the experience rewarding.
“[The kitchen was] super fun and chill,” Gyawali said. “We had some music on and everyone was collaborating and having a good time.”
The baked goods made by the UNICEF members will continue to be prepped, for their event April 11 and 12.
“The baking we did is going towards our bake sale during lunch,” Varadachari said. “Our goal is to raise money, because all of the proceeds donated by students in exchange for our goods will go towards UNICEF.”
