Ladue Concert, Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras performed Nov. 15 in the Performing Arts Center for their Fall Concert.
Chamber and Symphonic orchestras performed two pieces each, while Concert Orchestra performed three.
“It was just an electrifying experience,” Twinda Murry said. Murry is Director of the Ladue Middle School and High School Orchestras. This was her 85th concert conducted through the Ladue Orchestra program.
Murry has been teaching private lessons and in school districts since 1988. Her angle on teaching and conducting keeps her from burning out and staying refreshed as a music educator.
“It’s like getting to create something new every day,” Murry said. “The coolest thing [about] teaching orchestra is seeing the growth for students.
Chamber Orchestra was led by Micky Chyu (12) and they performed the first two movements of Danzas Latinoamericanas by Jose Elizondo and Hoe Down by Aaron Copland.
“I [try] to perform whatever the music evokes,” Chyu said.
While Chyu plays for Ladue Chamber Orchestra, she also plays for the Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra as the 7th chair violinist.
“In YO, it’s a different type of repertoire and you’re playing with a bigger group of people and it’s a full orchestra,” Chyu said.
This was Chyu’s final fall concert with the Ladue Orchestra. Sheplans on pursuing violin performance in college.
“Being on stage and being able to show your authentic self through the music is [what] makes it really special being a musician,” Chyu said.
