Ladue’s Record-Breaking Season

Despite a 2-0 loss to St. Dominic on Saturday, the Ladue varsity soccer team had perhaps the best season of any team in Ladue history. Although this did not lessen the disappointment of the final loss, Coach Matthew Prange was still satisfied with the season.

“The results on the field speak very loudly,” Prange said.  “The things we accomplished will be very hard to match.  Doing what we did with the tough strength of the schedule we had was amazing. We were crushed by the last game because the final loss of the season is always tough. Just like that, it was over, after all that happened this year.  It seemed we deserved better. Despite the loss, we played hard and with sportsmanship.”

Ladue set several records during their breakout season including most wins (23), most goals (92), fewest goals allowed (13), and most shutouts (17). They also were the first team to win the Quincy tournament and a sectional playoff game. Prange believes next year’s team, even without the graduating seniors, can follow up with another great season.

“The bar has been set pretty high,” Prange said. “Although we are losing great talent, we still have great talent in the program.  If we all put in the work in the offseason, there is no reason we can’t have another successful season next fall.”
