Ladue meets MICDS on the gridiron, hoping to take an early lead in the district playoffs, and perhaps more importantly to stick it to one of their biggest rivals.
Ladue enters the game with a 5-2 record. The Rams lost their first two games of the season, carrying a lead into the final quarter against a highly ranked Parkway Central team, and battling it out against powerhouse St. Louis University High School. Since then, the team has been unstoppable, powered by the freight train running style of senior Deavin Edwards and talents of highly recruited senior wideoot, Jehu Chesson.
Edwards is one of the top players in the area, racking up a remarkable 1,152 rushing yards on 102 attempts, and 19 touchdowns. He has helped the team during its formidable run against conference opponents. During the stretch, Ladue has averaged 47 points a game while only allowing 8 points on defense, posting shutouts against Berkeley and Affton.
Down the road, MICDS has posted equally gaudy numbers. They remain undefeated at 7-0, although their strength of schedule pales in comparison to Ladue’s. They have dominated the weak ABC league, led by Mizzou recruit Michael Scherer. He’s a two way starter at middle linebacker and running back, leading the team with 11 touchdowns and 37 tackles. Untested quarterback Thomas Militello has aired it out for 1,428 yards and 18 touchdown.
It’s clear that this matchup is a battle of two local heavyweights, and may carry some serious playoff implications. MICDS has received an inordinate amount of praise from the local media, and will have their hands full with the talents of Edwards and Chesson.
The game will kickoff at 1:00 pm at MICDS. Be sure to come out and cheer on your Rams, whether they are donned in red and green or the much more aesthetically pleasing blue and white.
