The Varsity soccer team traveled to Kansas City this past weekend, Oct 8- Oct 10, for a tournament, where they played other high school teams.
The team stayed in Kansas city for one night, and played 3 games. During the short weekend trip, the team was able to play soccer and do team bonding activities. Junior William Moore attended the tournament this past weekend and thought the team bonding was a fun addition to the trip.
“We did a lot of team building activities that I thought were really good for the team. Like Friday, we went to an escape room kinda place, which we all know Coach Aronberg cheated by getting the easiest room but my team got third.” Moore said.
While the trip was supposed to be fun, the team traveled over 3 hours, “with the intention to play soccer against some good competition”, Moore said. They started the weekend off strong by getting a win Friday night against St. Micheal the Archangels. They were down 1-0 at half, but pulled through, to end the game winning 4-1.
The team had two games on saturday. They lost their first game to Pembroke hill. The score was 3-0. However the score doesn’t reflect how the team played.
“We lost the second game, in which we played well; it just didn’t go our way,” Moore said.
Then the team made a comeback, with their final and best game of the tournament. Their final game was against Grain Valley. They won 4-0. During this final game senior Grayson Francis scored an amazing goal and completed a hatrick in this game.
“Greyson hit a shot that was insane, like absolutely nailed a shot from 20 yards away.” Moore said.
After finishing the exciting weekend, the team got back on the bus and headed home. During the 3 hour ride back, players and managers did a variety of things to pass the time and relax. Manager of the team, junior Alyssa Jackson did different things throughout the ride.
“ I listened to music, talked with some friends around me, went on tik tok, Instagram and Snapchat.” Jackson said.
Through a “blazing hot” first game, a second game which “[they] played well it just didn’t go [their] way”, and a high scoring win “although they were so tired”. The varsity soccer team ended high level competition with a strong record of 2-1.
