The week leading up to homecoming may be exciting for many Ladue High School students. From deciding what to wear to the dance to preparing for the Homecoming game, there are a variety of things to do. But in the midst of all the planning, many students enjoy participating in a school-wide activity known a Spirit Week.
For many years at Ladue High School, the student council has come together to plan Spirit Week, when students can participate in different theme days and parade their spirit around school.
The Ladue student council decides the themes of the week, which include a different type of costume or attire for each of the five days. The themes change from year to year.
“I liked that the themes this year were very different from last year,” senior Kyndra Johnson said. “This year’s themes were pretty good. I enjoyed them.”
This year’s themes included “Camouflage” or “Duck Dynasty” day on Monday, St. Louis sports teams on Tuesday, Super Hero day on Wednesday, Blue and White day on Thursday, and Color Wars on Friday. Overall, Monday’s theme was favored.
“I liked it because I thought it was pretty easy to dress up for,” sophomore Madeline Billeaud said. “Many people were dressed very peppy.”
The theme was similar to great outdoors. Many students wore rain boots and hunting style clothing.
“My favorite day was ‘Camo’ day,” Johnson said. “I think that’s the easiest for most people because everyone has ‘camo.’”
Foreign exchange student and sophomore Jana Rsumovic also enjoyed spirit week. It was different to her from what her school does in Serbia.
“Because we don’t have anything like that in Serbia, it was a really cool change,” Rsumovic said.
Like Billeaud and Johnson, Rsumovic’s favorite day was ‘camo.’ She enjoyed it because many people dressed up.
“It [spirit week] was really wild and I loved it,” Rsumovic said. “People were so excited so it was really fun.”
Overall, many students enjoyed dressing up for spirit week and would do it again next year. For them, it was a great way to show school spirit.
