However, the Rams could not get anything going offensively. The Rams trailed 31-12 at the end of the first half. In the second half, SLUH’s hot shooting continued and cruised to a 60-35 win over Ladue Feb. 7.
Ladue’s record fell to 15-7 while SLUH moved to 10-12. Senior co-captain Josh Horwitz believes that the team just could not recover after falling behind early.
“We got outplayed,” Horwitz said. They made their shots early and we could not hit our shots.
Senior Trent Stiebler has noticed a significant change in the team’s mindset after the loss. The coaches are now pushing them harder in practice to make them tougher.
“[Losing to SLUH] made us mad and compete harder in practice,” Stiebler said.
Sophomore Jaylen Boyd led the team in scoring with 11 points and junior Moses Okpala had 7. The team faces 6-15 University City High School Feb. 9.
“[Our gameplan for University City is to] win every quarter,” Horwitz said. ” [We also plan to be] focused, competitive and unselfish in all aspects of the game.
Despite the loss, the team has confidence heading into districts later this month.
“[Our goal for the rest of the season] is to win the district championship,” Stiebler said.
Winning districts would probably mean that Ladue would have to beat either SLUH or Chaminade.
