The St. Louis Rams have won only one game this season. Last week’s bitter defeat to the Atlanta Falcons left fans craving for a win, but they will have to wait for at least another week after the result against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys took an early lead with a touchdown and a field goal in the first quarter. The offense had a difficult time getting in rhythm as they failed to score until the third quarter. Unfortunately, a very formidable Dallas offense was able to score at will in each of the subsequent quarters. By the end of the game, the Rams trailed 31-7.
A closer analysis can show everything that went wrong with the matchup. Firstly, the defensive line of the Cowboys, most notably, Demarcus Ware, outplayed the Rams’ offensive line. Altogether, Bradford was sacked six times, losing significant yardage each time.
Secondly, the defense of the Rams underperformed. DeMarco Murray, the running back of the Cowboys, was able to rush for 175 yards. The defense seemed flat; they only sacked Tony Romo once.
Lastly, the penalties were out of control. By now, the Rams must already be used to penalties, but perhaps what is most surprising is their inability to learn from them. Sunday alone, the Rams recorded five penalties. In order for the franchise to grow, discipline must become a primary concern.
Although the Rams did badly against the Cowboys, they have a chance to redeem themselves, with a tough game against the 49ers next week. A strong performance could see this week’s result forgiven and forgotten. Of course, many Rams’ fans have already given up on this year’s team.
