Each year my mom sends me a link to the outfits of the Oscars, Grammys or any similar celebrity event. I usually pick out my top three and send them to her, providing obnoxiously honest reasoning for my selection. Typically we discuss the best looks of the night, fangirl over Zendaya (if she attended) and ridicule the most outrageous attire. And although I don’t consider myself any sort of a fashion guru, I do have an opinion on celebrity outfits.

While the sleek, skin tone dresses are getting a bit repetitive in celebrity fashion, this Schiaparelli dress on Ariana Grande is stunning. Its shape is unique and interesting, while not being too much. The contrast between the pink satin and nude tulle creates the whole look, and the crystals on the skirt add just the right amount of intricacy. This dress looks like a mix between a ballerina and a jellyfish, in the best possible way.

My next favorite Oscar look was Halle Berry in Christian Siriano. The silver mosaic pieces and gems are striking but elegant. Her slick bob compliments the silhouette of the dress, mirroring (See what I did there?) the strapless top and skirt train. The sheer, black panels on the sides add depth and contrast, pulling the dress together. Although I’m sure this was incredibly uncomfortable to wear, this look quite literally outshines all others.

There were plenty of boring outfits at the Oscars, but there were also some lovely statement pieces, including Lisa’s tuxedo dress by Markgong. The pointed shoulders paired with the flared skirt creates a bold, classy silhouette. Layers of black and white make up the outfit without going into basic suit territory, and the red carnation is the perfect pop of color. It was refreshing to see a more androgynous look with elements of both masculine and feminine fashion, and this outfit absolutely delivered.
