Nearly each week, students enrolled in Adventure Pursuits taught by coach Roberta McCaffrey take a field trip to different locations such as a rock climbing gym to experience different active sports and activities.
This week, students are exploring rock climbing. The students learn the basics of climbing and belaying on the Ladue High School rock wall before they take a trip to Upper Limits to climb on larger walls.
“Rock climbing is a full body sport,” Addie de la Paz, a student in the class, said. “You have to learn how to move and control your body to get up the wall.”
Addie de la Paz, a climber on the Upper Limits team, is able to provide other less experienced climbers with help in the class.
“With my experience, I can help other climbers learn the ropes of climbing,” de la Paz said.
Lachlan Woodcock is another student enrolled in Adventure Pursuits and really enjoys the opportunities the class provides.
“The most fun part for me is getting to go on the field trips,” Woodcock said. “It’s very nice to get out of school.”
