The Ladue varsity football team got off to a tough start on Friday, Aug. 30 when they lost their first game of the season 41-10 to Parkway Central (ranked fourth in the St. Louis large school rankings).
Parkway Central has been a thorn for Ladue in each of the last three seasons (Ladue has lost their last three season openers to Central). As in past seasons, Central relied on their powerful ground attack to carry the day. On the first possession of this year’s game, Central’s Augie Brooks sprinted for a 59 yard touchdown to put the Colts up 7-0. Four more rushing touchdowns, three by Kahlen Saunders and another by Brooks, set the tone for the rest of the game. Central scored their other touchdown on a 49 yard touchdown pass to Isiah Sneed.
Ladue did score a touchdown on a 12 yard pass from senior quarterback Matthew Hooper to senior wide receiver Ryan Glazer and also got a 29 yard field goal from junior kicker Jack Fox, but there were few other bright spots in this opening game. Hopefully, the Rams can rebound from this tough loss when they travel to Parkway West this Friday night.
