With the first meet fast approaching, the Ladue boys swim team is ready to dive into a new successful season.
Last year, the team had some trouble picking up wins. However, because the swim team only lost five seniors, the team retains some skilled swimmers who should be able to help lead the team to a better season this year.
“Some key swimmers this year will be seniors Enze Chen and Collin Ladd, juniors Tim Carr and Matthew Richards, and freshman Iyayi Ogbevoen,” Coach Corey Miller said. “However, every swimmer will have a specific role during our meets this season. Some of the most important ones will be the Ladue Invitational Sept. 7 and the Lindbergh Invitational in October.”
However, winning isn’t the only goal for the team this season. Team chemistry and support will be very important, regardless of overall record.
“One of my goals for the team is for the team to bond and realize that while each swimmer is competing in an individual event, their performance adds to the team score,” Miller said. “We would also like each swimmer to set personal goals and work towards those goals. Hopefully, this will increase the amount of state qualification swimmers from last year.”
The team has also committed to trying to use practice time more effectively. This could easily help improve the team’s record as well as improving the overall atmosphere. Overall, the team’s remaining players and the widespread support from the whole team should allow the team to have a good season in the standings and in the state tournament.
