Last week, Feb. 27, the concert and symphonic bands came together for a jazz performance in the Performing Arts Center. The performance was led by Band teacher Aaron Lehde and included a variety of songs performed by students grades 7-12.
The concert and symphonic bands performed, as well as the middle school band. Some of the instruments used were the trumpet, guitar, trombone, and saxophone.
“If you didn’t have a jazz instrument then you played a different day,” junior John Judd said. “Those students were put in the chamber ensemble.”
Judd performed with the concert band on the trumpet. Each group of students performed a small selection of songs for the audience.
“The middle school band performed earlier than us so we got there later to perform,” Judd said. “We played a couple songs like Day in the Life of a Fool and The Creeper.“
Another student, junior Norah Murphy, has been a percussionist since the seventh grade. She performed on the drums at this show, and spent the time leading up to the performance finessing her skills.
“To prepare for the concert I practiced in class,” Murphy said. “Then I also played along with tracks outside of school on my drum set at home.”
