When football season comes to an end, indoor soccer takes its place as one of the most popular winter sports.
Many boys, and some girls, participate in recreational indoor soccer leagues with their friends. They join to be active and have fun with their peers.
Many of the games are late because the complexes that host these leagues have to accommodate younger children during the earlier hours. This does not seem to bother the participants.
“Even though the games are late, I’m still on top of my game,” senior Ryan Glazer said. “My team and I try to stay focused even though it’s past my bed time.”
The leagues are not extremely competitive and the teams mostly are just playing friendly matches. However, the players do enjoy winning, and work hard to bring home victories.
“We play to win the game,” junior Jack May said. “Even though it’s fun just to play, we love to beat the other teams.”
Some of the boys actually have female teammates. These teams are a little bit different than the all-boys teams, but they are no less fun.
“Playing with the boys is different because they are not as aggressive with the girls,” sophomore Jenna Shanker said. “It makes it more fun because we surprise them with our skills.”
No matter the gender of the players, the teams love to have fans come out to support them, despite the late hour. Nevertheless, some students make the trek to the various locations at which the teams play to cheer and enjoy the game.
“It’s fun to watch the boys play and have a good time,” sophomore Caroline Smith said. “I like supporting them, even if they don’t pull out the win.”
