During seminar on Jan. 15, students gathered in the Nielson gym during seminar for club photos. This event happens every year in order to collect photos to be used in the yearbook.
The event was planned and run by journalism teacher Sarah Kirksey and a number of volunteers from the Rambler staff. The Yearbook’s Student Life Editor, Mia Gourtzelis, a junior, helped oversee the day.
“Each club has a set time and station to take their photo,” said Gourtzelis. “They come in, write their name and grade down on a note card and sit to take their photo. Each club doesn’t take more than five minutes to be done.”
There were six photographers, one for each station, present at the photos. On top of photographers, yearbook staff had to collect names, organize the groups and ensure everything was running on time.
“Mrs. Kirksey helps the whole time, and she makes sure that everyone is not having any troubles and that it is running smoothly,” said Gourtzelis. “Other than that, the yearbook staff runs the stations, takes pictures and collects note cards.”
More than 90 clubs and approximately 1,500 students participated in the event. Additionally, many of the yearbook staff who volunteered at club photos were also joining their own clubs for photos.
“Even though we had roles, we all stepped in and helped each other,” said Levi Peace, a senior who is a staff member on the Yearbook. “For example, if a photographer needed to leave to be in one of the photos, someone else would step up and take the photo for them.”
