The Ladue girls basketball team beat Parkway Central 37-29 Dec. 7.

Ladue scored 23 of those points in the second half after a slower first-half start. Leading scorers were sophomore Mya Mann and senior captain Destini Rogers with 12 points each. Freshman Lauren Clay had five points, and junior Zyon Williams and sophomore Emma Margraf had four points each.

“I think we came ready to play and that showed with the results in the end,” Rogers said.

On the defensive side, senior captain Anika Speicher led the team in rebounds with 17. Mann had nine and Margraf had six. Mann also led the team in assists and steals with three and four respectively. Speicher led the team in blocks with two.

“I think they worked as a team on both sides of the floor which is the most important,” senior captain McKayley Hopkins said. “They also had great energy and the motivation to win the game and gave everything they got each second. With the great hustle on defense and smart successful plays on offense, the win was well deserved.”

The team currently has a 2-1 record. They are young and looking for experience — they only have three seniors, one of whom is Hopkins who is currently in recovery from surgery. They now look ahead to their game against Clayton Dec. 10.

“[I hope] we win Friday because it’s Clayton,” Speicher said. “But overall, since we’re so young, my goal for the team is to just develop and continue to improve each game. I think we’re already starting to see that improvement and teamwork shine through and the goal is to only go up throughout the season.”
