John Wick Movie Review

The relatively new film, John Wick, was released into theaters on October 24. Although the movie might seem like a fun, action packed type of film made for adolescents, it is rated R, and children under 17 are required to attend the film with an adult.

With that said, the movie was a thrilling spectacle. The main plot is of a contract killer coming out of retirement due to a personal conflict with old cohorts. Although the movie was enjoyable to watch, there were some underlying issues.

The movie as a whole, was unoriginal. The entire subject line of a skilled agent coming out of retirement due to a personal dilemma has been woefully overused, most notably by the Taken movies. Other than the unoriginality, there was one other disturbing aspect of the movie.

At points in the movie, the violence was too heavy. Even with the fact that it is rated R, during the fighting scenes, the violence was taken over board. Violence was perhaps the overarching theme in this movie.

Unlike many other movies, this film had no basis for the violence that took place. The supposed protagonist of the film was lead to violence because of injury to his pet dog. Due to this, it was hard to sympathize with the main character.

Nevertheless, the movie was given a good grade by critics. Rotten Tomatoes, a critique source that is known for giving harsh reviews, gave John Wick an 84%. Such a fact only brings light to the downward spiral of movie production.

Once movies where made to convey meaning, they are now simply made for a quick thrill. However, if that is what a viewer is looking for, John Wick would certainly not disappoint.
