Battle of the Breads: Companion vs. Bread Co.

Battle of the Breads: Companion vs. Bread Co.

Let’s meet the challengers of today’s special match, the Battle of the Breads!

Today we have two talented opponents. In Corner 1 we have the always delicious St. Louis Bread Company. Always a prime choice for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a simple snack, Bread Co. never fails to impress. Pretty much universally known throughout St. Louis, Bread Co. is a hometown classic. On the other side of the ring we have the locally well-known Companion of Ladue. Companion is the perfect place to go for a quick delicious lunch, a chat with some friends, or a bakery item, if you’re in the mood to indulge. No one can argue that both Bread Co. and Companion offer delicious options. The question is, which will come out on top?

ROUND ONE: THE EGG SOUFFLE
Companion is gearing up and ready to go with their dense, rectangular shaped Egg Souffle. Bread Co.’s souffle, on the other hand, is flakier and round, almost like a pastry of some sort. Bread Co.’s has a pastry shell, and is slightly richer than Companion’s, yet they both have a delicious overall taste. Bread Co.’s Egg Souffle is sweeter than Companion’s, with a croissant-esque appeal. Companion’s is much more egg-centric and contains much fluffier eggs than Bread Co.’s. Companion has another advantage over Bread Co. in this category: their egg souffle comes with the customer’s choice of a side of fruit, bread, or pastry item. And it looks as though our judges have made the decision! Bread company’s Egg Souffle tasted excellent, but when you order eggs in the morning, well, is there to say? You expect eggs, and should receive them. COMPANION WINS!

ROUND TWO: THE VEGETABLE SOUP
After Companion saw victory in Round One, it’s time to evaluate Companion and Bread Co. on a lunch classic: vegetable soup. Companion’s “Winter Vegetable Soup” is hearty, filled with cheese, herbs, white beans, and vegetables. However, Bread Co. is right on track with their pesto and pasta filled Vegetable Soup. The small noodles in the Bread Co. soup add a nice texture, and the Companion soup is just a tad too thick. All in all, Bread Co.’s Vegetable Soup is simply better than Companion. Bread Co. may be an underdog after Round One, but in this case, it’s the clear winner.

ROUND THREE: THE BLUEBERRY BAGEL
Well, folks, looks like we’re down to a tie-breaker. Who will have the better blueberry bagel? Bread Co.? Companion? Let’s decide! Bread Co’s bagel is light, fluffy and airy, whereas Companion’s is heavier and denser. However, Companion has a very nice ratio of blueberries to bread, whereas Bread Co. is noticeably lacking blueberries in some spots. It seems that Bread Co. has a better overall bagel taste, yet Companion has an advantage with their fresh, plump blueberries. Honestly, it’s impossible to decide. The better bagel truly depends on an individual’s bagel preference. Light and fluffy, or dense and full of berries? They are both equally scrumptious!

Finally, the Battle of the Breads has come to a close! Companion wins in the Souffle department, Bread Co. comes out on top with their yummy Vegetable Soup, and they have a complete tie with their Blueberry Bagels! Whichever restaurant you choose, you won’t be missing out. #
