Ways to cut down and reflect

For movies –

  • Try watching only your favorite genre – pause throughout and write down what you like the most. After you’re done with a film, try writing down a few lessons you think are important.
  • Try watching your least favorite genre. Think about why you dislike it, and if you’re willing to give it a second try.

For music –

  • Instead of letting it play in the background, try focusing on only your music. If you’re doing multiple re-listens, try focusing on a different part of the song each time: maybe the percussion, vocals or something else.

For books –

  • Try choosing a book in a topic that really appeals to you. Or maybe pick up a “fun” book. Even if all it does is make you happy, that can be good too.

For social media –

  • Take a step back and look at what kind of content you consume. What is it, and why? Does it make you happy and engaged, or is it just something to scroll through?
  • Think about what you want to take away from what you consume. Do you want to learn more about your hobbies? About other cultures? Try narrowing your focus to what you’re most interested in.
