As the year winds down, Ladue’s UNICEF club is continuing its rapid pace in terms of growth and development. The club, newly headed by sophomore Giuseppe Di Cera, is well on its way in creating a long-lasting legacy through its altruistic endeavors.
“We had a lot of people who just knew what UNICEF was all about, Di Cerra said. A lot of people supporting the cause made us feel like the club was growing at school and that was our ultimate goal.”
Ladue’s UNICEF club has grown over the past few months as the management board introduces new events and activities for club members to partake in. With an increased presence at school-sponsored events and other events for parents, it is no surprise that the club is setting the bar high for the rest of the school year.
“Next year, we want to do more fundraising events such as a soccer tournament and a dodgeball game against Dance Marathon, sophomore Daniel Chayet said. One of our proudest accomplishments is raising 518 dollars. We want to surpass one thousand by the end of the year.”
As Ladue’s UNICEF club increases its presence at a variety of events such as parent-teacher conferences and sports games, one might wonder what commonly draws a Ladue student towards joining UNICEF. With a powerful message and active leadership by members such as Chayet and Di Cera, students are flocking to the club.
“I joined pretty recently, sophomore Michael Wayne said. I got into it because a lot of really active students and friends of mine were in it wanted to see how I could help out.”
Being a club that actively supports UNICEF, the United Nations Child Fund, Di Cera, and others make sure that members know that all of their hard work, as well as dedication, is paying off. Despite the rapid growth as new members join, UNICEF members understand the importance of their work.
“The most rewarding thing is knowing that I can just help out with other students and friends as well as for a good cause, Wayne said.”
